The Provincial Government of Bataan is a recipient of a recognition conferred by the Presidential Communications Office FOI – Project Management Office (FOI-PMO) during the 2023 Freedom of Information (FOI) Awards held last Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at the Hilton Manila in Pasay City. Said award falls in the category, New Local Government Unit to pass an Ordinance on FOI.
In her message, PCO Undersecretary Cherbett Maralit emphasized that the FOI Awards stand as a testament to the transformative power of transparency in shaping a brighter future for our nation. Usec. Maralit further urged everyone to reaffirm their collective commitment to fostering transparency, accountability, and good governance.
Atty. Evangeline Q. De Leon, Assistant Secretary for Operations of PCO, commended various local and national agencies and departments for their enthusiastic support and unwavering dedication in implementing the FOI. This commitment contributes significantly to fostering citizen empowerment, increased public participation, and open governance.
Bataan achieved this milestone with the active participation of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan led by Vice Governor Cris Garcia in passing Provincial Ordinance No. 27 s. 2022, highlighting the commitment of local legislative bodies in promoting transparency and accountability.
The Provincial Information Office (PIO) headed by Ms. Angel Lara who received said citation on behalf of Gov. Joet Garcia, is in the forefront in the crafting of the Province’s FOI manual and in the implementation of said Ordinance, ensuring its effective dissemination and utilization, thus empowering citizens with access to vital information and reinforcing the principles of open governance in Bataan.
The City Government of Balanga also received this prestigious award. These joint efforts serve as a testament to the province’s unwavering commitment to transparency and excellence in public service.
